Binance Pay Links With PayPay for Crypto Payments in Japan
Overseas Binance Pay users can now spend at PayPay-supported merchants across Japan, expanding crypto's retail footprint in a major travel market.
Inbound travelers to Japan gained a new payment option as Binance announced that eligible overseas Binance Pay users can now transact at PayPay-supported merchants nationwide, the company said Tuesday. The integration, enabled through the HIVEX® platform, positions crypto-based spending alongside one of Japan's most widely accepted digital payment networks.
PayPay holds a dominant position in Japan's mobile payments ecosystem, with its QR-code infrastructure accepted at merchants ranging from convenience stores to restaurants and retail chains across the country. By tapping into that existing network, Binance Pay effectively extends its usability to a broad cross-section of everyday consumer spending destinations without requiring merchants to adopt new hardware or software directly.

The move reflects a broader push by major crypto platforms to bridge digital-asset wallets with mainstream point-of-sale infrastructure, particularly in markets with high tourist traffic. Japan draws tens of millions of international visitors annually, and the ability to spend from a Binance account without exchanging currency or carrying local cash represents a practical convenience pitch aimed squarely at that audience.
The announcement was made from Abu Dhabi, where Binance has maintained a regional operational presence. The company did not disclose the number of PayPay merchant locations covered by the integration, though PayPay's network spans millions of acceptance points throughout Japan. The HIVEX® middleware layer serves as the technical bridge enabling real-time settlement between the two platforms.
